Zooengineering

Professional qualification: Zooengineer

Admission: student entrance exam – a written test in biology or the grade from the State matriculation exam in biology or chemistry or Bulgarian language and literature.

Types of training: full-time and part-time.

Duration of studies: For bachelor's degree, full-time – 4 years, part-time – 5 years, afterwards training can continue for obtaining master's and doctor's degree.

     The zooengineer creates and improves new animal lines, breeds and hybrids. Preserves the gene pool in animal science. Creates and improves the biotechnologies of breeding. Creates and participates in the production, quality assessment, storage, processing and rational utilization of animal feed. Organizes animals prevention and environmental protection in farms and industrial animal enterprises, introduces good production practices, takes part in the management of food safety and quality systems.

     The zooengineer who has graduated the Faculty of Agriculture in Trakia University performs managing, organizational, operational, consulting and other activities, related to the production, processing and marketing of animal products in state-owned and private companies in the animal breeding and processing branch, commercial companies, public organizations, public administration  etc.

Agronomy

Professional qualification: Agronomist

Admission: student entrance exam – a written test in biology or the grade from the State matriculation exam in biology or chemistry or Bulgarian language and literature.

Duration of studies: For bachelor's degree, full-time – 4 years, part-time – 5 years, afterwards training can continue for obtaining master's and doctor's degree.

     The agronomist is a qualified specialist in the sphere of agricultural production. He has knowledge and skills to organize the production and marketing of products of field, fruit and vegetable crops. He is acquainted with agricultural machinery and equipment and can use advanced technologies for crop growing.

     The agronomist possesses qualities and skills for work in the agricultural sphere, can manage efficiently agricultural production units. He can maintain communication among structural units involved in agricultural production and provide overall closed cycle.

     He is trained to work in a team and to perform managing functions in agricultural production structures. After graduation the agronomist can either be successful on the job market or continue his education in higher educational degree.

Ecology and Environmental protection

Professional qualification: Ecologist

Admission: a student entrance exam in mathematics, a written test in biology, or an exam in chemistry, or the grade from the State matriculation exam in mathematics or biology or chemistry or Bulgarian language and literature.

Types of training: full-time and part-time.

Duration of studies: For bachelor's degree, full-time – 4 years, part-time – 5 years, afterwards training can continue for obtaining master's and doctor's degree.

     The ecologist trained at the Faculty of Agriculture at Trakia University – Stara Zagora is a specialist of high qualification with deep theoretical background in natural, biological and technological subjects that are fundamental for the major, over which the relevant knowledge in applied ecology is built, with an emphasis on activities in the agricultural sector. He is trained to do analyses and expert reports for assessment of environmental quality, evaluation and forecast the actual status and risk for ecosystems, keeping biological diversity, effect of hazardous substances in air, soil and water on organisms and ecosystrems, the degrees of impact and changes in biocenoses, as well as to offer solutions for limiting and preventing negative changes in natural complexes.

     The bachelor in ecology is trained to plan, forecast, control, develop, assess and implement waste-free or limited waste technologies in the production of plant and animal products. He is aware of and applies ecological legislation.

     The ecologist can occupy various organizational and executive posts in the systems of the Ministry of Environment and Waters, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, municipalities, companies and productions in the agricultural sector, non-government organizations, foundations, scientific and educational institutions, media, etc.

Agricultural Engineering

Professional qualification: Agricultural engineer

Admission: written test in biology or mathematics, or the grade from the State matriculation exam in biology or mathematics or Bulgarian language and literature.

Types of training: full-time

Duration of studies: For bachelor's degree, full-time – 4 years, afterwards training can continue for obtaining master's and doctor's degree in other majors at the Faculty of Agriculture.

     Training of specialists in the major “Agricultural engineering" is done by syllabus developed jointly by representatives of Trakia University in Stara Zagora, Ruse University “Angel Kanchev” and the Agricultural University in Plovdiv, as well as with the participation of lecturers from the Agricultural College “Harper Adams”, England.

     The major “Agricultural engineering” has technological orientation in the sphere of agriculture and animal science. It combines in itself the most important elements of production processes in the agricultural area – technologies for production and management, mechanization and automation of processes, technological design and organization of agricultural production, solving the ecological issues in agriculture and development of agricultural areas.

     The agricultural engineer is a large-scope specialist of high qualification, who has theoretical knowledge and specific practical skills in implementing classical and high technologies, operation and technological design in the sphere of agricultural and animal breeding.

     The agricultural engineer is able to build, maintain and renovate the necessary equipment of the agricultural economic unit, can provide efficient communication among various production units and integrate their functions to close the production cycle.

     The agricultural engineer can be successfully employed in agricultural companies, public organizations, commercial businesses and on the various levels of the management sector.

Fishery and Aquaculture

Professional qualification: Technologist in aquaculture

Admission: student entrance exam – a written test in biology or the grade from the State matriculation exam in biology or chemistry or Bulgarian language and literature.

Types of training: full-time and part-time.

Duration of studies: For bachelor's degree, full-time – 4 years, part-time – 5 years, afterwards training can continue for obtaining master's and doctor's degree.

     The technologist in aquaculture is a highly qualified specialist in diverse directions of the aquaculture – pisciculture, mollusca production, crustacea and aquatic plants production. The technologist in aquaculture has an experience to perform a consultancy services for aqua production; hydrobion reproduction, recreation activities, hydrobion farm management; fishing activities and hydrobion population evaluation. He is able to participate in the financial management of the farms, in the aqua production planning and optimizing.

     The students who have graduated the major will be trained to work as a technologist in an industrial aqua production, as a specialist in the Executive agency in Fishing and Aquaculture; as a professional in the system of the hunting-fishing activities; as a lecturer at the Agricultural Tech school and institution of higher education; as a specialist working in aquariums and zoos; as a research associate in institutions.
