History and mission

THE FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AT TRAKIA UNIVERSITY

 

The Faculty of Economics is a structural unit of Trakia University, Stara Zagora. It is an institution in which students are trained in the professional field of Economics in both forms of training – full-time and extra-mural.

The establishment of the Faculty of Economics at the University is in compliance with national and European standards, as well as with the priorities of economic development, so that to guarantee profound professional knowledge and training to undergraduates and postgraduates in economics, business, regional development and the implementation of the principles of common agricultural policy, innovation, entrepreneurship, management, planning and prognostication, etc.

 Studies at the faculty are carried out in three major BBA degrees: Agricultural Economics, Regional Economics and Business Economics and in five MBA. majors, accredited for six years with "good". Three Ph.D. degrees have received accreditation with "very good"(Minutes № 151/11.01.2011, the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency) for a period of six years.

Tuition in the professional field of Economics at Trakia University is introduced with Agribusiness in academic year 1992/1993, on the basis of the Autonomy Act (Section 3, paragraphs 1 and 4) and by a decision of the Academic Council (Minutes № 12 / 19.02.1992). During school year 1996/1997, the subject was renamed as Agricultural Economics in accordance with the State Register.

B.S./B.B.A. in Regional Planning and Rural Development at Trakia University was established after the statutory order in academic year 2003/2004, by a decision of the Academic Council, Minutes № 16/20.02.2002.

On 07.11.2002, (Minutes № 35), NEAA gives a positive evaluation of the project for opening BBA. in this major, the second in the professional field of Economics for the university. The accredited RPRD major is the first Bachelor’s degree of that kind for the higher education in Bulgaria. It is included in the register of university specialties in EU countries. In response to new challenges in the sphere of regional development and regional economy in the twenty-first century  and by the decision of the Academic Council, Minutes № 35/09.03.2011, Regional Planning and Rural Development is transformed into the major of Regional Economics.

Business Economics  is the third major B.Sc. degree established on the basis of the Higher Education Act, after  a decision of the Academic Council – Minutes № 16/29.04. In 2009, with  Report  № 33/12.01.2006 of the Accreditation Council of the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency /NEAA/, the Project for the opening of a new structural unit – Faculty at the University of Trakia was given a positive assessment. By  the Council of Ministers Decree № 257/27.10.2008, published in the Official Gazette № 95/04.11.2008, the Economics Department of Trakia University in Stara Zagora was founded.

 

The MISSION of the Faculty of Economics is to train specialists with higher ECONOMIC QUALIFICATIONS  FOR the advance of business, state and regional governance structures, regional and municipal directorates and services, NGOs, financial institutions, consulting firms instructed on the design and implementation of projects and programs for regional DEVELOPMENT. Our MISSION is also TO PROMOTE COLLABORATION IN THE FIELD OF BUSINESS both IN THE COUNTRY AND ABROAD.
